THIS SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! IT WILL CONTINUE TO CHANGE AS I RECEIVE SUGGESTIONS FROM PEOPLE!
This is just a chance for you to tell about YOU (probably a favorite among your topics). It can be about anything. Find a worm in the dirt last Thursday? Tell me about it!
I might as well start with myself.
Okay, my surgeon was planning to have me use the internal distractors because they're less cumbersome and annoying than the RED (external distractors). So I went to a hospital had the internal distractors put in (that sounds so simple, but for your sake, I'll skip all the surgery details). About five days later, my last day in the hospital, we started turning the screws. That worked...for a while. A few days later, we found out that it wasn't working. So I had another surgery (which was not as major), to try to fix it. Then I discharged and we started turning the screws again. When nothing happened, we went back to my surgeon who said I would need a third surgery to have the RED put on.
So I had the RED on for a while, and thankfully it worked! After turning the screws for a while, I went back home while I went through the waiting period. So I waited for my bones to heal for a few weeks. Then I went back to have it taken off with another surgery (this one was outpatient). It was such a relief to get that thing off! I must warn you, though, because the first time I looked at my new face, I almost cried. Not because I thought I was hideous, but because the reflection staring back wasn't me. I would scare myself whenever I looked into a mirror! But it only lasted a little while, and I got used to my new look (plus the swelling went down alot over time).
This surgery was definitely worth it. Yes, I still get stares from little kids (and their parents), but not as much as I used to. -AND You guys that haven't been through this yet honestly don't know how great it is to be able to breathe through your nose without thinking about it! Of course, this also basically eliminated my sleep apnea!
GOT A STORY? ABOUT ANYTHING (surgeries, doctors, that sandwich you ate for lunch yesterday)? Sign the guestbook
and I'll post them (unless you tell me not to)!
