Below are some products that should be helpful during the RED period:

  • A wedge pillow: keeps the head elevated at night, which reduces the pain from gravity.
  • A pillow small enough to fit between the side bars of the RED halo which stick out the back of the head:  This pillow provides support for the head.
  • A travel pillow (the kind used on airplanes): which goes around your neck and holds your head up, without hurting your RED. This has worked for other people.
  • Baby spoon(s): fits in the mouth better than regular spoons.  See Food and Diet page for how to use.
  • Syringes to eat with.  See Food and Diet page for more.
  • A mini-alarm clock: lets you know when it's time to turn the screws so you don't forget or miss a turning.
  • Socks loosely stuffed with lentil beans: are like little microwave heating pads. They are small and moldable so you can slide it under that RED
  • Sports water bottles: see Food and Diet page for more info.
  • Blender: a necessity for pureeing foods. Miniature blenders work the best because you can puree small amounts of food without having to wash a huge blender.
  • Water pick:  helps keep teeth and gums clean as well as gets rid of some germs that could've caused infections when used with mouthwash
  • A chart of medications: reminds when and how much of each medication to take and prevents unnecessary stress and confusion
